Are you looking for just the essentials to get started?

This basic kit provides you with a machine to tuft with, some tufting cloth, and a frame!

What's included:

  • (Your choice) The Authentic AK-I cut Pile Tufting Gun, Authentic AK DUO cut and loop pile tufting gun, or the new ultra-quiet, low-vibration Ak-V (Ak-5)
  • (Optional - build your own) Tufting Frame 90cm x 90cm (great for a small area rug) or build your own
  • 100cm x 200cm Rug Tufting Fabric
  • A three-pack of threaders
  • Machine oil
  • (optional) Rosewood Carver (200W- for cotton and acrylic) or Heavy Duty Carver (250W - for wool)
  • (optional) Carving Guide for chosen carver

Our authentic machines have been on the market since 2018 and come with a six-month warranty. EFFY's machines are also customized to use only premium materials. This means we upgrade the motors, scissors, and other metals used to make the machine, providing you with superior quality. Most tufting suppliers will provide you with the cheapest version of a model to gain more profit per sale.

The Tufting Frame is essential. Stretch your primary tufting fabric over the tacks until it's tight as a drum!

This kit also includes enough fabric for two frames. This standard tufting fabric is 70% polyester and 30% cotton. You need a special fabric for tufting, as it must have the right weave and strength to withstand the pressure and motion of the tufting gun.

You get to choose a carver and guide. Our Rosewood carver is 200W with teeth that sit a bit more closely together, making it ideal for acrylic and cotton. It works on wool, but we suggest upgrading to the heavy-duty carver if you feel you will use a lot of rug wool. This slightly more powerful carver 250W can be paired with our 3D-printed carving guide.

What you'll need to purchase: my recommendations:

Rug Wool (not knitting wool) or an alternative material to tuft with. Generally, you need enough yarn fed into your machine so that the needle tip is full. This gives the best results.

Rug Wool (not knitting wool) -structured natural fibers made from 100% Romney New Zealand wool

Our Rug Wool is available for purchase here (use two strands at a time!)

EFFY Cotton Blend Tufting Yarn (80% Cotton, 20% Acrylic) - super soft fibers. 75 shades.

Our cotton blend is available for purchase here (use one strand at a time!)

EFFY 100% Acrylic Rug Yarn (Not knitting Acrylic) - structured fibers with a slight sheen in 38 shades

Our 100% Acrylic is available for purchase here.(use two strands at a time!)

Liquid Latex—It's so important to finish your rug with the right glue so that all that work stays locked in place. We recommend finding carpet latex glue or pure liquid latex, such as EFFY's New Zealand-made liquid latex.

Why liquid latex? It's just a layer of rubber adhered to the back of your rug. It keeps the rug super flexible like a rug should be. Liquid latex also doesn't crack or degrade the fibers of your rug over time, like other glues and adhesives.

Other adhesives - You'll likely want spray adhesive to apply your backing fabric and possibly fabric glue or a glue gun to apply the binding.  For spray adhesives, we recommend something durable from your local hardware store.

You may also find a glue gun helpful if you add binding to your rug. This is incredibly important as it strengthens the most vulnerable part of your rug.

Other tool:

CLEANING BRUSH: Grab a fluffy brush to keep the buildup of fibers on your machines to a minimum. Fiber buildup can stop your machine from working!
